"Carer Snapped"

4th September 2017 – Physical Abuse

A carer who dragged his elderly mother to the ground, kicked and threatened her with a fire poker told police he had “snapped” and “was glad he did it.”

The defendant had been caring for the victim for 17 years until the incident in August 2017, when the defendant lost his temper after the victim suggested the defendant visit someone who is no longer alive. The defendant pulled the victim from her chair to the ground, and kicked her to the lower arm causing extreme bruising. The defendant then took a hold of a poker and raised it as if to strike the victim, but struck a chair next to the victim instead.

The defendant was sentenced to nine months in prison suspended for twelve months, he must also complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days under the supervision of the probation service.
