Care Home - Cover Up

7th August 2018 – Neglect

Two care home workers were discharged after lying and covering up a dementia patient’s fall after the victim was left alone in her room.

The defendants discovered the victim lying on the floor of her room and after putting her to bed and calling a nurse blamed the injuries around the victim’s mouth on her dentures falling out. Only seven hours after the fall, when further bruises were discovered on the victim’s body, was an ambulance called and the victim was taken to hospital where doctors found further injuries.

The two defendants were given 12-month conditional discharges after admitting ill treatment or wilful neglect, and ordered to each pay £85 costs. Following the incident, the Care Home was branded “inadequate” and put into special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
